I wanted Apple Notes' get-out-of-my-way editing, but with every note kept as a plain Markdown file I actually own. So I built Mojolio — a Markdown editor for Mac, iPhone, and iPad, where your notes are just files in a folder you control.
Any folder. Any sync you already trust. Yours for good.
No database, no export button, no lock-in. Your notes are plain Markdown files in a folder you picked — the kind of thing that still opens in twenty years, on anything.
Mojolio
Mojolio doesn’t have a cloud of its own. It just reads and writes plain files in the folder you pick — where that folder lives is entirely up to you.
Keep the folder in On My iPhone or on your Mac and it stays local. Nothing syncs, nothing leaves.
Point Mojolio at a folder inside any of them and your notes show up on every device — synced by the service you already trust, not by me.

Because it’s all plain files, you can version the whole vault — commit, branch, and push your notes like code.

Headings look like headings, **bold looks bold**, and the Markdown quietly fades back until you need it. You always know exactly what's in the file — it just stays out of the way while you *write*.
This is the part I care about most. Your files can be touched by other apps, other devices, sync, scripts, even AI — so Mojolio is built to never quietly clobber a thing. If something looks off, it keeps both copies and asks.
There's no account to make, nothing to track, and no Mojolio server your notes pass through — because there isn't one. Your writing never leaves the folder you chose.
I keep my own vault in Git and let an AI assistant tidy it up now and then — no plugin, no special API, it just reads the folder. Because it's all plain files, your scripts and tools already know how to work with it.
Mojolio is named after Mojo — my beagle, and my shadow for a lot of good years. She was curled up next to me for more late nights at this desk than I could count. She never cared about Markdown. She was just steady, loyal, and always right there. Naming the app after her was the easy part.
